Long bio
~ 280 words
Jonah Schwickert plays boogie woogie the way it was first played - in rooms, for people, with the piano in the middle of everything. Based in Berlin, he performs solo and with rhythm section across Europe, from intimate ballrooms to concert stages and festivals. His playing draws from the original recordings of Albert Ammons, Meade Lux Lewis and Pete Johnson, threaded through the New Orleans, blues and rock'n'roll piano traditions, and reframed for a contemporary audience. Outside of performing, Jonah founded Boogie Woogie Mastery - the international online program through which he has taught the music to over a thousand students. He is the founder of Berlin Backbeat, a new festival debuting at Clärchens Ballhaus, Berlin Mitte. His Instagram presence, Everyone Loves Piano, reaches an audience of more than 260,000 people who love the sound of a real piano in real rooms.
